Transition Education and Services - Running Project 1 & 2
The purpose of this running project assignment for SPED 856 was to bridge theory and practice in transition education, analyze the effectiveness of transition services within a school district, identify areas in need of improvement, and explore evidence-based strategies to enhance postsecondary outcomes for students with disabilities. Since I am not currently working in a school, I approached it from a research-driven perspective, relying on data analysis, academic literature, and best practices rather than firsthand experience. By engaging with the Quality Indicator (QI) survey, I identified family involvement as a critical area for improvement in Eanes ISD, where it received the lowest rating (2.88). Through this project, I gained valuable insights into the challenges schools face in implementing effective transition programs, the critical role of family-school-agency partnerships in fostering students’ self-determination, independence, and advocacy skills as they transition to adulthood, and the importance of empowering families as active partners in the transition journey.
